Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Microblading? Microblading is a form of permanent makeup that creates natural, beautiful eyebrows with a handheld microblade. It’s perfect for people who have overplucked or those who want to define, darken or reshape their eyebrows. Technically, microblading is a form of eyebrow tattooing. However, unlike traditional tattooing, which uses a machine, microblading artists apply each hairstroke with a handheld microblade. This produces a very fine line that resembles real hair. Each individual hairstroke is hand drawn by the artist and blended in with the client’s existing eyebrow hair. With a strong artist at the helm, the results can be gorgeous and very lifelike. Microblading typically takes two appointments to complete. In the first appointment, the client is profiled and the eyebrows are drawn on with a brow pencil, so the artist and client can agree on the look. The artist then microblades the eyebrows and the client is ready to go back into the world. There are some pre-care and aftercare required, but your microblading should be completely healed in 30 days. The second appointment is a touch up at least 30 days after the first session, but we prefer to do it at 6 weeks. This allows enough time for the ink in the epidermis to naturally slough off, and the color to settle into your skin. In the touch up appointment, the artist can see how your skin has received the ink and make any necessary corrections.
How long will it last? Between 1 and 3 years! This will vary depending on skin type, lifestyle, and following recommended aftercare.
Does it hurt? Most clients experience little to no pain, and compare it to the feeling of tweezing or light scratching. Many clients even fall asleep! Topical anesthetic is applied prior and during the procedure so the client can feel at ease while receiving the treatment.
How should I prepare for my appointment? 24 hours before – no caffeine 24 hours before – no exercising as it expands the pores 48 hours before – no alcohol 2 to 3 days before – no Ibuprofen, Aspirin or blood thinning medication (Tylenol is okay) 7 days before – no plucking, waxing or threading 14 days before – no vitamin E, fish oils, or niacin 14 days before – no extensive sun exposure or sunburns 14 days before – no AHA’s or any creams/face washes for exfoliating, anti-aging, tone correcting and fading as they may cause pigment discoloration 4 weeks before – no laser treatments, micro-needling, dermaplaning, any other facials, Botox or other fillers, and chemicals peels 6 months before – no Accutane and/or steroids which thin and make the skin more sensitive Menstrual cycles – avoid scheduling your procedure during this time. Your skin will be more sensitive and likely to bleed.
How long will the appointment take? A microblading service consists of a consultation where we discuss your lifestyle and desired results. Next we map the brows according to the natural symmetry of your face. Once we agree on the brow shape, the procedure takes about an hour and a half. The entire session takes a total of about 3 hours.
What is the healing process like? You will leave your appointment looking beautiful! The first 7-10 days, you’ll need to avoid getting them wet(including sweating from working out) or wearing brow makeup. Your new brows will take about 4-6 weeks to totally heal. If you follow the wiping & ointment instructions properly there should only be some minor flaking in the first 7-10 days.
What should I expect after my microblading appointment? You will see great results after the first procedure. Little parts of the eyebrows may naturally slough off during the healing process or the color may heal slightly lighter. Results depend on each client’s undertones, whether they have very oily skin, how much they bleed during the procedure, etc. It is hard to accurately predict how the ink will heal. We recommend coming in for a touch-up appointment 6 to 8 weeks after your initial appointment to retouch the parts that need more work done and match the color as much as possible to your natural eyebrow hair. This is also the perfect time to add more thickness if desired.
When should I get touched up and how often? The average time between touch ups is between 18 months- 2 1/2 years. I offer a complimentary touch up between 6 – 10 weeks of your initial appointment. After that, we charge a fee for annual or semi-annual color boosts.
How do you color match the hair? Our pigments are of the highest quality and are pre-mixed to match every type of hair color. We can mix in additional pigment colors to match each individual client. Beauty Angels Pigments are hypo-allergenic, vegan friendly, and have great retention!
Who should avoid microblading? Microblading is not recommended for those with oily skin. Clients with oily skin are recommended to get shading or combination brows (shading and microblading). The following excludes clients for microblading: – Under 18 years old – Pregnant or nursing – If you have skin diseases such as Roacea, Shingles, Psoriasis or Eczema on the area of treatment – Allergies to makeup or allergies to previous PMU, Keloid disorder, HIV/Hepatitis, skin cancer, hemophilia, or if you’re taking skin medications like Accutane and steroids. -Dermatitis of the brow -Extremely Sensitive Skin -Excessively large pores
Can you microblade over previous permanent makeup? Microblading will not cover-up eyebrow tattoos or other permanent make-up unless the color is extremely faded. We will need to see a photo of your eyebrows to determine if we can do the correction/cover-up for you. Please send us a very clear and close up photo of your eyebrows to : lacey@permalounge.com. This photo is private and will not be shared.
What should I do to prepare for LipBlush Treatment? Exfoliate in the days leading to your appointment. Light exfoliation is recommended the day before. Keep lips as moisturized as possible to help with pigment retention. We can't have your lips chapped or cracked during the procedure.
If I get cold sores can I get LipBlush Treatment? Yes you can! We would need you to be clear of any cold sores before your scheduled treatment and also take an antivirus cure prior to the treatment and continue after the treatment as it produces crusts that extract pigment from the skin.
What is the LipBLush healing process like? You will be a little sore and swollen the day of treatment. The next day your lips will feel very chapped and slightly swollen still. I will provide cleansing wipes and gel to apply after the treatment. These products should be the only thing used on your lips for the first week. Light crusting will begin after a few days. It is VERY IMPORTANT not to pick at your lips. This will cause uneven color in the healing process. Your Lips will fade 40-50% from the initial color and will heal into a beautiful soft shade.
